  •  And it's no one's job to correct the mistakes. The (33+ / 0-)

media bends over backwards to present both sides even when one side is totally false (CNN I am talking about you!). You can't count on the candidates themselves to correct mistakes, right Santorum? There are certain segments of society that buy the lies lock, stock and barrel.  It is a very sad place we have arrived at.  I have no answers.

We reached the same conclusion about the media accepting lies from Republicans. What possible deterent is the media when they'll automatically accept a Republican lie as a valid "position"? The only deterent is the morality of the politician him- or herself, and we know that's no deterent to Republican pols, or to Republican voters who see the ends as being much more important than the means.

Also, watching John King backpedal after questioning Newt about his open marriage in the South Carolina debate reminded me of a wimp getting beaten up by the bully. King and the rest of the media have to be able to ask the hard questions and not be detered by a little push back. Actual quote from John King:

KING: As you noted, Mr Speaker, this story did not come from our network. As you also know, it is a subject of conversation on the campaign. I'm not – I get your point. I take your point.

It is like King is asking the question of a KING!

Republicans, like Zombies, just want to get a head.

and most all getting paychecks from politically-tilted megacorps who have only their own interests in mind.

Of as Erin Burnett inferred during her CNN travesty last night, getting rid of the Superpacs and their ad money would "decimate our industry".

is hard to come by.  If they print a story about a big company in their area, that Person/Owner/Corporation, retaliates by pulling all of the advertising.  The paper can't afford dollar loss.

I am sure it's the same cable news.  When John King questioned Newt Gingrich, he was a collaborator lobbing a softball to Newt.  Newt's trademark is to attack the media.  Deflect from answering the actual question.  When Newt did answer, he lied about his ex-wife.  I call it lies of first impressions.  He attacked John King and made a big hissy show that everyone absorbs.  The next day Newt gets fact checked to be a liar.  The crowd is no longer around to see the follow up.  The viewers continue to believe and support the first impression.  Republican's have been trained to do this, and it works.

'cause God may forgive you, but I won't. Yes, Jesus loves you, but I don't. They don't have to live with you and neither do I. You say that you're born again, well so am I. God may forgive you, but I won't and I won't even try"--Iris Dement

      in general, no.

And we're not training any new journalists to fill the void.

We can't even get more than one public-interest news org (Propublica) off the ground.

Trust me, modern media wants to fill space and time more than look at facts. Just add up the hours of punditry everywhere and fake news on, say NBC NIghtly News-- one or two "news" stories and then fluff.

      Filling time between commercials.
