Franco, Mussolini and Hitler must be proud.

When you can't 'win' with the virtue of your ideals, then 'win' by destroying the lives of the opposition.

May I point out that the 3 villains you chose didn't destroy their opponents' lives so much as actually destroy their opponents, a significant difference both in scale and consequence.

It's still pretty un-PC to call for your political opponents to literally die...

...but as we've seen numerous times since a Democrat won the White House in 2008, it's ok to declare that you won't honor your sworn oath to lead all of society forward, but will instead dedicate your time in office to destroying the lives of the people who voted for the opposition party.

Fascism didn't come all at once back then, and it certainly won't come all at once here. It takes many baby steps before a democracy can be destroyed and replaced with a dictatorship.

          •  Well it just shows how important (0+ / 0-)

context is. The parent comment said that Hitler et al would be happy at something being done now, not at some distant eventuality. And actually, fascism did kind of come all at once. The murder of opponents was an early integral part of the European fascist movements. It wasn't like they started with reasoned arguments and then said the heck with it.
