    be aware that many of the Founding Fathers and Mothers of this country abhorred slavery.

    and abhorrence does not equal abolition. Jefferson "abhorred" slavery.

    Deeds trump words.

    Nevertheless, Ben Franklin has always been my fav Founding 1%'er.

    I am not now, nor have I ever been, a member of the Republican Party.

      Franklin's parody is so "dead-on" because he captured the logic that kept even opponents of slavery locked into the system.  There was a huge gap between rhetoric and deed that was indefensible.

      Slavery was America's original sin. We are still dealing with echoes of that blight and horror on the national soul.
