  •  Um, I'm pretty sure that quite a few of the (3+ / 0-)

    kids involved in school shootings knew far too well how to use guns. They would not have been able to be so deadly otherwise.

    •  But did they learn the use of guns as tools (0+ / 0-)

      or as forbidden weapons?  That's the difference. If all they know about guns is that guns can be used to destroy things and people, then that's what they'll use it for.

      Guns used as tools, treated as tools, and taught to be used as tools are far less likely to be used in anger.  Not that they won't be - I've seen the weirdest things used as weapons in anger - just that they are less likely to be. We, as a society, put too much power in the concept of guns.

      All knowledge is worth having.

        FEAR of guns, knives ... and we take for granted that a sixteen-year-old is competent to handle a ton of high-speed metal in a variety of environments.

        Far better IMO to stop giving in to all our fears, and start teaching responsibility for our own behavior to our grownups as well as our kids.
