    it seems to be evolving every day and I'm not sure what I could tell my kids if they were still that age.
    They didn't have metal detectors at school entrances when I was in grade school.
    Larger cities have complete School Police Departments.
    Don't defend yourself if a bully is picking on you, that will surely land you in trouble? Safe bet.
    There are a lot of schools fearful of lawsuits and the easiest route is to lay the responsibility on the police.
    I would never tell any child today a policeman is to be considered friendly. Those days are gone.
    I remember having 'sit-ins' in junior high school. There was never the fear of police being brought in, but you can bet that would be the first response.
    I feel teaching children how to mitigate the problem should they be incarcerated or arrested is not traumatic, it's realistic.
