go ahead - but don't complain when you lose your support - becasue it will happen.  Yup - freedom can be a bitch and have consequences both ways.

You false equivalency to North Korea is pathetic BTW.

The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government. - Thomas Jefferson

flag is exactly the same tool that despots like, e.g. North Korea, use to keep their populace in line.

Whitewashing it as a "two way street" deal is just that--whitewashing.

      •  So don't complain when you lose support then (3+ / 0-)

If that's your political philosophy that's fine. Personally, I could care less about the physical flag etc.

But to probably the majority of the 99% and main street America, it's a big f-ing deal (to paraphrase our VP).

Burning flags is your right. Tea Partiers have the right to make racist signs and hurl racist epithets. It doesn't mean it's going to attract people to your cause and doesn't make it smart.

When we stop putting leaders from the past up on pedestals and ignoring their flaws, we can start seeing our present leaders for what they really are.

        •  There's a difference between noting what (0+ / 0-)

you noted (which I agree with) and excusing it as ctexrep did by implying that the jingoism isn't, well, jingoism.

I'm not willing to call it 'stupid' because flag burning can be an effective attention getter, but it probably isn't a tactic I'd personally use or endorse.
