  •  Actually, you can apply pressure by voting (0+ / 0-)
Every time your police use tear gas on Oakland the people of Oakland are justified in blocking the ports of Oakland and shutting down commerce in the city, and its' not because they are racist or sexist against female Mayor's named Quan, it is because the Oakland Police Department has been tear gassing and shooting rubber-bullets at them and this is the only way the people of Oakland feel they can create enough pressure on the elected officials of Oakland to stop the police brutality.

Actually, if you really want to stop what you claim is police brutality the simple solution is to vote out Quan and vote in people you like... like some of the leaders in the Occupy Oakland movement.

Your problem, however, is that the majority of Oakland voters will never support that.  See, it's hard to win a fight in a democracy when you represent a minority view.

This is why you feel the need to threaten to do things like "blocking the ports of Oakland and shutting down commerce in the city" - because one way a highly committed minority like Occupy Oakland can get its way is to use intimidation and coercion to make the less committed majority agree to its demands.

The Occupy movement claims to represent "The 99%".  Why don't you try to build a movement that can at least draw the support of 50% +1 of voters and change things at the ballot box?
