    But he actually has a ton of influence. His anti-tax pledge has almost singlehandedly destroyed the functioning of governments from the state to the federal level.

      those pledges norquist offered.  I suggest those who signed them ARE the problem.  They as we All do-Had a choice.  Some refused to sign in spite of his "influence".  They are still there.  If they All or the Majority had refused to sign, no one would ever know Who norquist is.
      Those signors had a choice.  All norquist did was offer them "a deal"-they coulda simply said "No, thanks" as some did and moved on.

      I fully hold the signors responsible, not norquist.
