I'd be a lot more excited about getting Democrats a House majority again if the gavel were to go to someone who isn't Nancy Pelosi. When she got the gavel, she said the best part about it was "subpoena power". Then she hardly subpoena'ed anyone, especially not any of the Bush/Cheney criminals who were pleased to hear they were safe when "impeachment's off the table". She subpoena'ed hardly any of the banksters in the second half of her 4 years with the gavel, though that inaction helped cost her the gavel. Maybe because she'd legislated their continuing crime spree for the first half of her 4 years, even as that legislation let the Credit Bubble pop during that Congress.

Pelosi squandered more of that gavel's power than she exercised, and we're all still suffering for it. If the gavel went to someone more willing to investigate what was wrong with legislation Pelosi helped make, I'd be more excited about getting it for them.

Instead I'll just vote for my local rep, donate to the real progressives who can win their elections with my help, and vote for Obama - despite all the disappointments. I wish I could muster the energy to do more, but I'm not getting the help from these Democrats to do it for them. Just the help from the hideous Republican alternative that they're merely better than.
