  •  Anti-choicers are reall bullies (27+ / 0-)

My friend runs a non-profit organization for breast cancer survivors. Really simply stuff like helping them pay their bills and providing support groups. She apparently got offered a $10,000 donation contingent on signing a statement that the organization would not give money to Planned Parenthood. My friend's organization doesn't even deal with the prevention and treatment aspect of breast cancer so they don't give money to Planned Parenthood or have any connection to that organization though my friend does personally support it.

The anti-choice donator said it didn't even matter. Apparently they just want to be able to say they convinced another organization to sign the pledge. The person told my friend that the $10,000 would be just the beginning, as many anti-choicers would donate more money if her organization was on this list. She also warned that if she refused to sign it, her organization would basically be blacklisted among anti-choicers.

My friend refused to sign this pledge fortunately. But it's amazing how these anti-choicers try and manipulate and bully these worthy non-profit organizations just to score political points against Planned Parenthood.

perhaps she could do a write up and post it here.  That is appalling.

And she's good at appearing sane, I just want you to know. Winwood/Capaldi

    •  What anti-choice group is offering $10,000 bribes? (5+ / 0-)

Very proud of your friend for standing up for her principles. I'm sure $10,000 would have gone a long way to help the women which her organization supports. However, it would have caused far more harm to far more women in the long run.

This would be an excellent topic to research and publish.

      •  Not sure who it was (0+ / 0-)

She made it sound like it was someone affiliated with a church. Her organization is in Texas so there is definitely a large anti-choice constituency down there. When she told me about this last time I saw her, I encouraged her to report or publicize this, but she was very wary as she already has to deal with a wide-range of political views in her donors and also in the people she helps with her organization. In fact she has previously gotten money and volunteers from churches and conservative groups that are likely anti-choice (she even holds events at some conservative churches), but she didn't feel like it was a big deal because those funds didn't come with any strings attached.

She has told me that breast cancer charities have become quite political in the last few years with all this stuff about supporting Planned Parenthood.
