Missed a paycheck so Romney might be targeting people like us under your argument.  But in this Great Recession, we had many close and extended family members who were unemployed for months to years, we had a niece and neighbors whose homes were foreclosed, we had a daughter graduate from college and unable to find a job for 2 years.  We watched our 401K balance tank and delayed retirement plans.  We heard horror stories about insurance companies refusing to pay medical bills, and what that meant in terms of whether the rent could be paid that month.  We watched our home lose over 20% of its value.

Now everyone is back to work and things are looking up, but I'm more determined than ever to fight for Social Security and Medicare and Unemployment Benefits, and Food Stamps, and health care reform, and tougher regulations.

I think you raise a valid point on what their strategy might be, but I don't believe Romney can pull off a Reagan or a Nixon with all this near-tragedy fresh in our minds.
