    ...suggests. The problem, as we well know, is even getting a 10th of that out of Congress unless it's for new weaponry. Fixing existing infrastructure alone would cost $2 trillion, say the experts in such matters. That's $200 billion a year for a decade (even if we don't build new highways, which we shouldn't). Add renewables at the level we actually need and we're talking about double that $150 billion. For a total of $500 billion a year, equal to the core Pentagon budget of $523 billion.

    I wish we had a majority in Congress who would buy that proposal. If we invested at that level for 10 years, we'd be in 2020 where we should have been in 2000.
