is a marketing tool that companies take advantage of to boost sales of their products or services.  It's a very effective tool.  Komen encourages it, not as much for the money they get, but for the publicity and advertising for their group.

Incidentally, the money spent on these kinds of publicity campaigns is written of as part of their "education" & "raising awareness" expenses.  As long as they cite some breast cancer stats and tell women to get mammograms, its considered part of their program, not a fundraising expense.  Using this method, they reap millions every year for marketing and advertising.

A yogurt with a pink lid is "education"?

And yeah, I totally get the marketing thing and I never fell for it. If I want to donate to charity, I donate.

What a joke. I hope this is the end of pink ribbons.

addition to selling stuff at marked up prices.

It's such a racket, all the way around.

But, SKF made it very easy to "donate" to a "good cause" without ever having to actually DO anything but shop.... that's why they were so popular with the overwhelmingly lazy American people.
