  •  Sadly, I think you're wrong. (8+ / 0-)

I think this was thought-out and planned for a long time, and they plan to hunker down and weather this firestorm. They want to align with the irrational, poor-hating far right, and losing some support is worth it to them to do so. I just don't think enough moneyed interests care about poor women's health for this to be the death knell for SGK. It's a sad day for low-income women's health.

    •  I don't think they have a choice (0+ / 0-)

As it stands, they have to change their policy because they will not be around to weather any storm.  They will be defunct.

      •  hope you're right, but don't think so. nt (1+ / 0-)

survive this in some capacity, but there can be no doubt that it has wounded its brand deeply, and I think it will never again be what it was, in size or in amount of donations and corporate sponsorships.  It may not happen right away, but I think in about a year you'll see a much smaller SGK with A LOT fewer major corporate partners.

It has to happen.  The last thing corporations like General Mills want is to be dragged into this thing.  They spend millions advertising Yoplait and in one day the brand becomes controversial because of its SGK tie in. Not to mention the spotlight on "pink washing" that this debacle has put on corporate sponsors who won't like that a bit.

partners will switch over to the main American Cancer Society or other organizations, and expand their donations to cover all cancers not just breast cancer.

Another facet of this whole conversation is the fact that breast cancer has sapped money from from many other cancer and disease funds, heart disease getting only a slice of what breast cancer research gets, even though many more women die of heart disease than breast cancer.  Don't get me wrong, I hope for a cure with all my heart and don't begrudge the money going towards it.  But I certainly do begrudge the high administrative costs of an organization like SGK, which helps no one except SGK.

(or any other brand of corps that support SGK) as long as they stay with SGK.
