    Shame and guilt are bad for the spirit, especially when they are about who you ARE.

    Also, if one wants to run away from something, anything, especially yourself, a monastery is a really bad choice, as you are stuck with just you and God 24/7, with a lot less distractions (ok, for you, the men might prove distracting). Anything one is hiding from will smack them right in the face in a monastery.
