I met Allen Ginsberg at the Republican National Convention in Miami in 1972. I had spent the night in the park and on the way to the convention center, where I was to march with the veterans against the war, Allen suddenly appeared at my side. We spoke for ten minutes or so without my  realizing who he was.

I had asked him if he was a veteran and he stopped, stared at me a moment and said, "Yes, but not the way you think." I followed with a second question, "What group are you here with?" He replied, "I'm with the group that's here to stop the war."

I remember this because my friend Timothy ran up to me and said, "That was Allen Ginsberg you were talking to! What'd he say?" I answered, "We're here to stop the war."
