n radio show and Kerouac called in from somewhere on Cape Cod. It was so hard to listen to him, obviously deeply, profoundly drunk and only semi-coherent, Ginsburg trying to comfort him, the radio host unsure what to do given the way things were developing. He was a tortured soul by then in his life. It was only months before drink would take his life. But what a legacy he left us.
