  •  Now is not the time for unproven experiments (4+ / 0-)

As distasteful as negative ads are, they have worked in all but a very few cases. Very few challengers have won elections by running no ads at all or not spending money or not campaigning, especially when their opponent is an incumbent with a virtually unlimited source of money and already owns his own armies of extreme right wing Bible-thumpers and gangbanger thugs.

Whether you run ads to counter Walker's propaganda or not, the same amount of resources will be applied to the GOTV and door-to-door campaign efforts.

    The choices are:

    • Hold your nose and run some carefully produced ads that expose Walker's lies and generate fear, uncertainty, and doubt in the low-info electorate (a technique that I find personally repulsive), or
    • Play the good cop / bad cop card, jump into a phone booth, and fly away in pursuit of Truth, Justice, and The American Way.

This is likely to be the most important election period of our lifetime. The best chance we have to stop the tyranny of Fitzwalkerstan is right now. The momentum is with us. The teabaggers and the libertarians and the Republicans are eating their own. The presidential candidates are a joke, We have the strength, the will, and the enthusiasm to prevail.

Most of all, this recall election is about the United States. Wisconsin must lead the way forward. This is what Wisconsinites have done since 1848.

Now is not the time to experiment with an idea that might risk the loss of even one vote.

[I usually don't get all rah-rah-rah about these things. I blame the cheese running through my veins.]
