That's the irony. Komen has an annual budget somewhere around $400M. The money they denied to Planned Parenthood was insignificant to them. But it represented many tens of thousands of breast exams for women who otherwise would not have gotten one.

And $3M is good for Planned Parenthood, but consider it this way: it's $3M coming from progressive pockets that otherwise might end up funding a challenger to Cliff Stearns.  These people are grinding us down.

    •  Well, $250k of it came from Mike Bloomberg (0+ / 0-)

And he's a Republican. (And another $250k came from a Texas oilman, IIRC.)

But yes, it would be nice to get a lot of progressive and maybe even some civilized indies (of the sort who would have been Rockefeller Republicans forty years ago) to join a campaign against Stearns.

The problem is that so many lefties have been so ticked off by the two-party duopoly that they've given up on politics and headed for what they think are safer places to invest their time and efforts.  They might see efforts to get Stearns booted as simply the sort of partisan politics they think is the problem, instead of the swamp-draining action that getting rid of Stearns would be.

The point is that progressives/moderates are being told to bear the entire weight of the planet.  We can do miracles, but we need to use our money, time, and talents wisely.

Let's page Meteor Blades and see if he can talk Kos into, say, scouting out Florida-06.

I've talked with a Florida guy who is disillusioned about fighting to remove Stearns -- he believes the CD is and will continue to be designed to protect Stearns and make him invulnerable.  But that's what folks thought about Ohio-02 in 2005.
