  •  Handel is a symptom. That's all. (22+ / 0-)

Ari Fleischer was on the executive search committee that interviewed candidates and selected Handel.

It's rather like having Dick Cheney search and interview people for a job then being surprised when he hires himself.

Handel is a problem. A big problem. And she needs to go. But she's a symptom of a lurch to the right that Komen has undergone. It's evident in their stem cell policy as well.  It's evident in how they treat medium size and tiny charities who dare to use any of the bazillion copyrighted terms that Komen has registered. Komen seems to not understand that protecting intellectual property at all costs is something that corporations do, not charities, especially when the unintentional transgressors are on the same side as you are, for God's sake! (They should be watchtful, to ensure that no one is misrepresenting themselves as Komen for fraudulent or misleading purposes of course, but that's a far cry from shutting small charities down).

Komen shouldn't charge upward of $$2300 for interested participants to do its silly walk. Yes, I know that it costs money to provide the infrastructure and resources to stage the walk. But it doesn't cost $2k per walker. And the fact that if someone raises $2200, but can't raise the last $100, that Komen says, "thanks for the $2200, but you can't walk, and you don't get your money back?"  That's a corporate thing to do.

Komen lost its humanity a long time ago, if it ever had it.

I've given big to Komen in the past -- mostly to ensure that my friends got over that $2300 hurdle to be able to do the walk that meant a lot to them.

But I've never liked this corporation. I did it because I love my friends and because they were walking for their moms who had breast cancer.

But Komen has received their last dollar from me.

So if you get hit by a bus tonight, would you be satisfied with how you spent today, your last day on earth? Live like tomorrow is never guaranteed, because it's not.

Except for the 'lurch' part.  Right wing corporatism seems to be part of their DNA, not something that was added on later.

easily and effectively return to duping decent, caring women.  The pink guns predated Handel -- and if not for having hired her, would the wider public have ever known about the pink guns?

for their race on the TV machine last night.  They are acting like nothing happened, business as usual.

    •  Great comment, but Handel is more than a symptom (1+ / 0-)

I strongly suspect the new anti-stem cell research policy is Handel's as well.  It went in this November, and wasn't she hired in April?

But having board members like Jane Abraham (General Chairman of the odious Susan B Anthony List) shows how out of touch the organization has become.  I would suspect they've so drunk the right-wing kool-aid that's part of Texas Republican thinking that they don't even realize how badly they've lurched away from the rest of the US on this.

Yesterday's Huffington Post article on Komen and Handel suggests that the latter would sooner destroy the former if it results in denying money to Planned Parenthood.  Her anti-PP mission statement is clearly trumping Komen's need to survive.  It's just sheer beauty that in doing so, she's generated five times more funding for PP in days than she wanted to remove.

A really great tagline appearing here soon! Watch this space!
