My spouse who is 55, had cancer of the oropharynx when she was only three years old -- a tumor the size of a plum. Radiation treatment was so new at the time that her father, an space-flight engineer, helped the hospital design and test the radiation deliver cone.
She's been cancer-free ever since. She's had her entire upper palate and teeth in a plastic prosthesis, most of her life. Metal clips in the jawbone anchor it. She speaks beautifully and eats everything.

It was a rough start in life, but she's been fine.
