  •  For that very reason, you couldn't have a..... (8+ / 0-)

.....better spokesperson. Only Nixon could go to China, and only Republican curmudgeon could impliedly praise the bailout with any effectiveness. Otherwise, they just attack the messenger, which they do VERY well.

    •  But, he didn't praise or acknowledge the bailout (0+ / 0-)

And, in followup interviews he mentioned that this ad was decidedly apolitical in his mind - he's a libertarian who considered it a "pick yourself up, dust things off and get going" message more than anything else.

That is, he competely glossed over the facts related to:

      1. The bailout reality
      2. The party that he publicly supports was against the bailout
      3. The party that he publicly supports helped lead to the need for a bailout

If he was supporting Chrysler's bailout help, it's not been evident from anything I've seen or read from him since the ad aired.

"So, please stay where you are. Don't move and don't panic. Don't take off your shoes! Jobs is on the way."

      •  Key words: Impliedly praise (0+ / 0-)

He did do that, whether he likes it or not. Otherwise, don't become a spokesman for a bailed out industry.

        •  I think we should avoid placing our own (0+ / 0-)

desires upon his expression and accept the simple explanation that he gave for his message. He referenced Chrysler as working hard to get into the 2nd half and is acting essentially blind to any Obama-related positives in this area.

Any art form can be interpreted by the viewer as they desire, but in terms of message Eastwood was offering a libertarian view of the future, without condemning his own style of ideology that happens to support much of what got us here (aside from the abstract, right-wing vitriol, which he tends to ignore).

"So, please stay where you are. Don't move and don't panic. Don't take off your shoes! Jobs is on the way."
