  •  Not only may there have been a Board split, but... (13+ / 0-)

... three key staff members told the brass they'd resign if Komen adopted this anti-PP policy. And worst of all, as Kaili Joy Gray points out, the lying about reasons for the decision and how it was made began at the outset with those jiggered accounting standards and it continues, And it is durably present at the very top of the organization.

Karen Handel is only the fall person du jour.

As a Board member (and I have been one for several civic organizations and n-f-p's), if a majority of the Board won't topple the top when it's necessary, members of the Board feel uncomfortable and it may be enough to cause them to leave.

PS: There is very strong evidence that there were dissenting members of the Board. Breast screening services for all of society is a core matter for an outfit that centers itself and its own image on visibility and prevention. While the amount of money Komen sent to PP is meager given Komen's spending on itself and other organizations, withdrawing support has made Komen into a different type of organization. I, for one, would leave the Board of an outfit who did that and which has a CEO who seems determined to keep muddling up the truth.

Obama and strong Democratic majorities in 2012!
