I'm wondering if birth control ever gets mentioned while Father looks out over his congregation of families with two or three children, when a generation ago it would be families of eight to sixteen.

even the most conservative don't include birth control.

We have had a succession of priests in our small town parish. The most recent vintage is very new and a chip off the Bishop's block. While I appreciate his conviction and enthusiasm, I am pretty sure he will alienate a large percentage of the flock in a while.

We also have a relatively new archbishop, who is far more conservative than his predecessors. The archdiocese contributed over a half million dollars to a constitutional amendment outlawing gay marriage. It comes as no surprise that both our priest and the archbishop will preach from the pulpit against the birth control decision.
