    from a such a practical point of view. My understanding is that the state is saying they don't want to be required to determine which of their legal marriages is same sex and which is opposite sex for the purpose of members of the couple receiving federal benefits.
    What I love is that it brings everything down to a clearly irritating problem and that it gets at the federal benefits (which DOMA prohibits for same sex couples).
    I'll be at the lobbying day in Annapolis, MD (our state capitol) with (hopefully) many hundreds of others making our presence known as we fight for marriage equality in Maryland, but what I really want is DOMA repealed and gay marriages treated like every other marriage in the United States.
