  •  That's why Mittens can be so cavalier. (14+ / 0-)
Romney "Let the states take care of their poor"

as if they do or would

All these God people, pro-life, "Christians" or whatever tag they give themselves are nothing but self-centered, judgemental haters.

It may not be right but I hope these stands of theirs turn around to bite them big bad karma time.

    •  Almost 60% of state governors are Republican (6+ / 0-)

and they're up to the same old dirty business. Here in Oklahoma, there's a bill in our state legislature to LOWER state income tax. This at the same time the Republicans in Washington want to push some of the Medicaid costs back to the states. It's not only the federal government they want to crush, it's the state governments, too. So, the heartbreaking story shiobe told us will be repeated over and over if Republicans have their way.

When I was growing up, there was no treatment for breast cancer. The first person I knew who actually died was a neighbor who died of breast cancer when I was about 8. In my lifetime, I've seen breast cancer become a treatable disease and now I've known several survivors. It was shocking to me as a child to visit our neighbor just hours before she was gone, and it's shocking to me now that Republicans want to take us back to the days when breast cancer was a death sentence for many if not most women.

shiobe, for all of us, please tell your story to all who willl listen.

      •  i will (6+ / 0-)

I've realized, through the comments, that it is important to put a face, so to speak, to the issue. my mother was not a 'mythical' woman harmed by the lack of health care, she was a living, breathing woman who had a life and potential ahead of her drastically cut short.

It does scare me to think of the giant steps back the Republicans want to take, especially when I think of the pain and suffering so many people, men and women, went through before better medicines and medical practices were found. i would be so happy if another woman did not have to die like my mother did, but i have a feeling that the fight is going to be very long to achieve that goal.

        •  Agreed shiobe. And like another postor here (1+ / 0-)

just mentioned, states are being strangled as well by cutoffs of funding. I'm sure Republicans want to go the route of private, for-profit everything - which would mean death and suffering to millions more women. Plus that would leak into everyone's lives including children. Greed is such an ugly thing. That an adult human being could do this to a woman and/or a child is just chilling.

Yes your mom had a face, a name, a life and family who loved her dearly. I'm so very sorry she is gone but I'm sure she is so proud of you for telling her story.
