  •  Hmm (none)
Was that on my post about methane hydrates last Friday?

Seems to ring a bell.  There was a hell of a huge argument about peak oil on that post.  Probably on a number of other posts too.

      is exactly right.

I am curious to see that person's opinion as well...

What really bothers me about that particular line of reasoning (i.e that "Peak Oil" is a scam and a sham invented and perpetrated by Big Oil and the Neocons) is that it is simply and completely bogus.

Peak Oil is a concept introduced and crafted by independent academic geologists, specifically M.K. Hubbert. Later, people like Campbell, LaHerriere and others have taken the concept further, along with folks like Matt Simmons and others. They are pariahs in the Big Oil world. Additionally, the heavy research and production testing in the new methane plays and potential resources are all being led and controlled by the same Big Oil companies (Shell, Anadarko, JAPEX, Exxon, BP, Texaco, and so on...).

The accusation simply holds no water, and the implications are extremely insulting and nasty - that anyone who holds with the Peak Oil hypothesis is a shill for Big Oil and the Neocons - something that is patently false and extremely divisive.

So, bad science, bad history, bad economics, and insulting, degrading invective...coupled with failure to respond to rebuttals or answer pointed questions...

I think that the people in question who are doing this may have ulterior motives.

If it is a scam and enough people  believe it  WWIII will  break out to preserve oil fields.  If it is true....well who knows what happens then.
