  •  I think they are still around. They're just not (0+ / 0-)

willing to go out and be confronted by the crazies for the caucuses (2/3 contests yesterday) and they realize that for the most part their party's platforms have left them behind. They don't see that their party supports them, since it's all about cutting services and inserting government into personal decisions like marriage, reproductive issues and they know that all these tax cuts are just to support the rich, which they're not, and it hurts the middle class, which they are (if not in the growing poor). I think they are the non-bigoted generally conservative but unappreciated ones who registered as Republican and still somewhat vote Republican though many wonder why anymore. Kind of like the Republicans in Kansas, who were able to vote in Kathleen Sebelius as a Democratic governor and her Lt. Governor as well, who were both former Republicans and turned Dems once both parties shifted hard right with Bush's era.

I am hoping these folks don't continue voting R this fall - either staying home or perhaps voting for Obama. As for the down-ticket, I think many eyes have been opened that the evil is not confined to Washington and the Presidency, but that it exists in Congress and in the state governments.

If Republicans aren't pissed about the violent lurch to the right, racist and appealing to the basest instincts of the Tea Party, they should be. The R party will simply die if they have to depend upon this kind of trash - deservedly so.
