    ...as was advertised...

even if Santorum was as brilliant at retail politics as advertised, which I don't believe, any more than I believed Gingrich was a masterful debater.

    •  McCain? Townhalls? (0+ / 0-)

I went to a McCain town hall on health care. it was a debacle! He intoned his stock "I'm glad to be here" remarks off a teleprompter and it went downhill from there. The first questioner was a woman who ran a community health clinic (and later became my canvass partner in the 2010 gubernatorial race) who asked McCain, since he said he wanted to just give people vouchers to buy health care, what he would do for older workers and people with pre-existing conditions who couldn't find affordable insurance for that set amount? He hemmed and hawed and clearly had no plan, eventually saying, "Well, I would work with the governors to come up with a solution." The thing spiraled out of control when some little aspiring financial shark in front of me stood up and started attacking workers of the state for opposing free trade.

      It was dreadful.
