Yes, it's good that the rampage didn't result in serious harm to others. Yes, the guy has mental issues. Yes, I hope he gets help. I hope he is prevented from endangering the public ever again.

Seriously, if this guy had theatened you or fired shots at you, would you have written about this in a public forum? I think not. There wouldn't be any doubt that you would be called to testify about this in court.

I say these things from a position of direct and personal experience with people who have been seriously injured and killed in similar situations. I will never share the details of any of these horrible events in public. Ever. It's not about me. It's not about the victims. It's not about my emotional distress and the impact that this has had on my life or the others' lives.

Please consider this as a plea to everyone reading this to seriously consider the larger picture and the consequences of reacting to your highly-charged emotional state. I'm not questioning anyone's judgement here. I'm simply stating the fact that emotions always influence judgement, usually not in a good way.

    I respectfully submit my suggestions.

is sharing that experience. We are storytellers. It is how we connect to each other, how we learn from each other, and how we grow. It is healthy and often necessary in order to process the events in our lives. In difficult and trying times like this, communication becomes more important than ever.

There is nothing wrong with writing down your thoughts and sharing them in a public forum. catilinus still might be called to testify and it might prove useful that he took 'notes' immediately after the incident that he can refer to later. Time has a unique way of changing our perspective and dulling our memory so it's useful sometimes to have a reminder of what we were feeling and thinking at the time an event took place.
