    One of the very unusual aspects of humans is that estrus is hidden (women, unlike most female placental mammals, don't go into visible heat). one consequence of that is that humans engage in sex a whole lot when there is zero chance of procreation. As should probably seem obvious, this is thought to be because for humans sex also plays an important communicative role in pair bonding, which is important in turn for child rearing in a species with MASSIVE parental investment in offspring. (compare to those species which lay a thousand eggs and go away). Thus, one of the funny things about humans is that sex plays a much bigger role than just procreation

    Of course, you have to actually have sex and raise kids to know that.
