  •  The drone issue is obviously not this simple (0+ / 0-)

The United States is not going out an killing civilians on purpose. Civilian Casualities are terrible and one of the worst things about war/military action. However, drones obviously have quite a bit of benefit as well. They let us hit targets in very remote areas of places like Afghanistan, they reduce the need of sending our brave fighting men and women into dangerous positions and also provide recon to headquarters instantly, thus allowing us to be better prepared.

Sadly, the nature of the war in Afghanistan puts families at tremoundous risk because the males in the community have chosen to fight as insurgents.

I don't like the war in Afghanistan, but I want my family and friends over there to be as safe as possible.

So I guess I ask, how do we make up for the massive benefits we would lose by stopping the use of drones? Again, the cartoon presents them as machines built to go kill innocents (its satire I know), but drones have also killed very many dangerous people.

Drones are piloted by a person who is in no danger of being killed/harmed and lessens the need for very dangerous building to building combat. Afghanistan is the perfect control to engage in guerilla combat, and they have proven that time and time again.

The two most famous examples recently are Anwar al-Awalki who was killed by a drone strike and Osama Bin Laden, for which drones provided information that allowed such a mission to be successful.

If the Pakistani's were more helpful and trustworthy, maybe we wouldn't have to use drones more often. Of course, that is a very complex situation, but it infuriates me we send military aid to a nation that is basically shaking our hand with a knife behind its back.

"...to fight as insurgents," eh? Every single one of them in the entire country, you say, or is this just a collective guilt thing? As long as one person somewhere in Afghanistan attacked a US (volunteer, professional, paid) soldier there, it is valid for the US to kill anyone and everyone because one man is every man?

Talk about over-simplification! Not to mention sickening.

So you approve the power of the President to kill USA citizens based ONLY on his own authority?  Judge, jury, executioner; no trial necessary?!
