  •  twigg, this is a great insight to the cultural (8+ / 0-)

differences in this large country. How about the occasional camp somewhere else for your daughter? She might get reinforcement from peers in a different setting.

What a tough row to hoe.

I had never been in the south until I needed medical care and the best place was North Carolina. I was there for a year and a half.

The first question in a group/party setting was, not 'what do you do?' but, 'what church do you go to?'. It was a way to place a person socially and politically.

My DH went to a mall situated bistro, and said he had never seen the type of rituals he saw there: several drinks before the hamburgers; they arrive; the table goes quiet and they pray grace; go back to drinking and eating.

We tried to find a UCC or Unitarian church for a local support, but none available.

We came away for the first time in life, thinking, we don't know anything we would want to go back there for. Nowhere else on the globe have either of us had this type of reaction.

Science is hell bent on consensus. Dr. Michael Crichton said “Let’s be clear: The work of science has nothing to do with consensus... which is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right,”
