Conventions have become so scripted and made for TV; with conflict, debate, and bloodshed virtually eliminated. They are designed for one thing, the coronation of the nominee in the best light possible. It's Miss America without the swimsuits.

Nobody knows what to do without that script. The last time it was unsettled join into the convention was the '76 GOP Ford/Reagan tussle. The last convention to actually go past the 1st ballot was - correct me if I am wrong - the '52 GOP convention.

Throw away the script and what will happen? It would be like their debates, on steroids. The whole platform debate could get drug into the fight. The tea party could riot, worse than the '09 town halls.

The GOP establishment cannot allow a tea party nominee. They know that person would be unelectable. But they can't stiff the base either.

Imagine a convention hall full of pissed off tea partiers. On national television. There is not enough popcorn in the world for that.

Democrats are not always right, but Republicans are insane.
