  •  If it were actually true... (3+ / 0-)

...national polling would look far different. This is just primary-time hissy fit. In some circumstances people say they won't vote for the guy they don't want as nominee as an irrational temper tantrum to try to get their way. When the nominee is decided they will, within weeks, fall in line. 20% of Republicans will not be voting for Obama this fall.

If McCain vs. Obama, 28% of Clinton Backers Go for McCain
If McCain vs. Clinton, 19% of Obama backers go for McCain

PRINCETON, NJ -- A sizable proportion of Democrats would vote for John McCain next November if he is matched against the candidate they do not support for the Democratic nomination. This is particularly true for Hillary Clinton supporters, more than a quarter of whom currently say they would vote for McCain if Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee

That did NOT happen. Not even close. This year is the same ol' story. Nothing to it.

    •  Yeah, but there is something to be said... (4+ / 0-)

for the contempt and hatred that a lot of people hold for all Republican options. All their contenders have followings of supporters, but all also have followings of haters.

People don't just dislike Romney or Gingrich, they dispise them. People will do crazy things over hatred.

My dad is a hard care Republican, but voted for Obama in 08 (and will never let me forget about it) because of his hatred for McCain.
