    •  Until you do the math and realize (10+ / 0-)

it means 80% ARE insane. But don't tell them, they won't believe you anyways.

Roughy 20% insane and just 60% somewhere between. As I recall Bush always seemed to have had a 27% base of batshit crazy, won't let go of the delusion that he was a good president dead-enders. And I recall in 2004 there was a visible 'Republicans for Kerry' contingent from which he landed some good endorsements, most notably Dwight Eisenhower's son John.

          (okay, all my life)...

it correlates pretty well with my own emerging calculus regarding the lunatic bin & its inhabitants:

time after time, when you drill down into the statistics, the wild claims and the rest of the horseradish, it repeatedly shows up as 25-35% in the hard-core-looney bin;  they like to play games, so you have to watch 'em like a chorus-line of three-card-monte dealers, but that whole deal about the nation being evenly divided?  Yeah:  not true.  At all.

In a classic bit of 'where's the beef?', the number of persons  who are committed adherents to the Dominionist, Social-Darwinist & web-based wattle-waggler school of "advanced conservative studies" represent 20-30% of the population.

That's nothing to be scared of:  they make it their business to seem as scary as possible, but the more over-the-top they get, the more nervous their more emotionally-stable fellow travelers become.

W e should not fear them, we should STOP THEM.  We should LAUGH at them.  We should, in turn, marginalize their spear-carriers and cannon-fodder by refusing to take the usual plausible-deniabilty bullshit seriously.  The don't need to be debunked, and they don't deserved to be listened-to (AGAIN, and at great length - and to no purpose beyond our distraction).

The "right" doesn't need rebuttal, it needs PARENTING...and short of that, it needs to go to its room and think about why the other kids don't want to play.  To that end, I wholeheartedly endorse and approve of the marginalization of the Republican party - puppets and masters - and the loss of that vestigial organ to the medical-waste canister of history.
