I agree that the Nevada GOP is in trouble and shows no real signs of turning its mess around. And I also agree that Nevada, like Colorado and Arizona, are both trending bluer. But to put it on par with California, and so soon? That seems a little unlikely.

Trends seem to point to good news for Democrats and bad news for Republicans in Nevada (because really, who besides Brian Sandoval could be the future of the Nevada GOP?) And Obama (and Berkeley) has a more than really good shot at winning there this November. But what makes you think it's going "as blue as California" by 2016? Believe me, I want that to be true, and you may well be right. I'd just like to see more solid evidence that that's starting to happen, and what's causing it.

A conservative is just a liberal who hasn't needed a second chance yet.

and I would warn against unguarded optimism.

Let's remember something: as unenthusiastic as people are about Willard, "passion" counts for jack shit in most of the red states. Oklahoma, Georgia, Kansas, etc are NOT voting for Obama in November regardless of how weak the candidate is. Willard, Senator Google, Newt Blingrich or the Grand Wizard -- regardless of which one of them is crowned king of Crazy, they're going into november with 169 instant electoral votes.

It's sad, but true. If there is one bright spot, it's that swing states now have to include Virginia, North Carolina and maybe...maybe Missouri and Montana. Slowly, ever so sloooooooooooooooooooooooowly we're gaining ground in purplish states and counties.

No doubt about it, stamping out the chokehold the GOP has on the south and the mountains will be a game of inches over time measured in years.

Why are GOP candidates so crazy? They're guaranteed 169 Electoral Votes no matter what. That's why.
