One would be that perhaps the active ingredient hasn't been tested well enough in brains to know if it would have some harmful effect that, while curing Alzheimer's, would leave you with Rush Limbaugh Syndrome or something.

And another would be, we don't actually know if that particular brain nasty (beta amyloid) is a cause of, or an effect of, Alzheimer's.

But this could help to provide the answer to that question and that would advance us one more step towards a cure.

    Moderation in most things.

If someone's got the big A, they're going to end up pooping in their diapers and drooling in their shoes and calling their closest relatives and friends by random names pulled out of the fog.  Sorry for being crass, but that's reality.

If I was faced with that kind of fate worse than death (thankfully it doesn't occur on either side of my family), I'd sign up to guinea pig my happy days away, on the faint hope that one or another of these magic molecules would go to work like an Elgin Pelican (look it up:-) and sweep up all the nasties in my crud-infested brain.

Sooner or later someone's going to find one that works.  And then all the still-living guinea pigs can line up, open wide, gobble their pills with a nice drink of fresh orange juice, and then get back to being their fully lucid and mentally competent grouchy old selves until Saint Peter or some Bodhisattva comes a' calling for them.

      Yeeee-friggin'-hawww!

"Minus two votes for the Democrat" equals "plus one vote for the Republican." Arithmetic doesn't care about your feelings.
