Southern Baptist Convention likes their women. It makes you wonder how Bill Moyers and Jimmy Carter could have been members of such an organization.

left, but his does have a Masters of Divinity degree from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth and was a Baptist pastor for a while before entering the political and public policy arena.  Since that seminary and that denomination is very conservative, I am sure that he has moved beyond aspects of that former life, but yes, he is a Baptist minister.

    •  Unless you ask their women (13+ / 0-)

The South is filled to overflowing with SBC women who have never hesitated to speak their mind, and who make their 30- or 90-day pilgrimage to Walgreens like clockwork to get their Pill prescription refilled.

So much for all these stuffed-shirt preachermen and their Very Serious Proclaimin'.

with women they "bond" in holy matrimony of some description where they and their community dictate the terms... And it particularly benefits many men in these communities because they are too selfish and socially incompetent to easily get and keep a sex partner otherwise... not far removed from many cultures with arranged marriages... where 3rd rate sons from wealthier or higher status families who on their own would have poor prospects of winning the affection of an "Alpha" female...  have a much better chance of landing a captive adolescent girl with little education to be their breeding, cooking and entertainment servant... In the US the females are just a bit older and literate... but carefully groomed to buy the formula.

And one of the key commonalities is raising girls to believe that they must conform to this formula of early brainwashing then marriage to only pre-approved mates, denied adequate education or the power to choose outside of the narrowly defined criterion because god says so...  It is only a matter of degree... but the structure and limitations are quite similar.

Pogo & Murphy's Law, every time. Also "Trust but verify" - St. Ronnie (hah...)
