    their entire identity and sense of being and purpose derives in large part from the unspoken (but daily implied and insinuated) belief that as men, they are superior to all other beings, including women. They don't say it, and maybe many of them no longer believe it. But they need to believe that they believe it, or their whole world, as explained to them when they were boys, comes crashing down around them, and the great abyss of uncertainty and doubt awaits. And that won't do.

    The vanity of the insecure male is a sad, sad thing to see, all the more so because it's so utterly unnecessary. But so long as they believe that it's necessary, and that they have to keep up the illusion of superiority and control or else everything comes apart, this will go on, sadly. It's our job to knock them off their pedestal, so that they can be freed of their self-imagined burden of male supremacy.
