So I made an excuse at work, got my neighbor to take care of my 2 girls told her another story why I was taking day off). I had to find $ for hotel room for hte day nearadn $500 for the abortion. I had to memorize the contact ph. number. I arrived at 9AM, in Chicago and called my contact after I got to the hotel  A gruff woman said she would call back when they were ready for me. 11:30 still had not herd begin to panic, and called again. She go mad, said they wee running behind, Finally 12:20 she called.. Jimmy will pick you up in 15 min. 20 min later knock at my room,. I opened the door to see a man who looked like mafia wise, gy piomp, white suite, black tie, pick shirt, 70's Ferdora hat, elevated shoes, pitted face... He said"Hey babe not to worry'. I was Very worried, He drove me to an apartment complex.. the walked down the long seemed endless. He knocked on the apartment door, when the gruff lady answered, he said "I have a delivery".
I entered into a room full of some with their husbans, all ages. When it was my tun, she took me to a bedroom, had me into the closet (the dressing room. Blocking the door she demanded the money. I gave her $500.00 in cash, she counted it before she then handed me a gown. I think she was a madam in a former life. The guy who performed the abortion was supposed to be a doctor and complained about by previous C-section said I should  NEVER get pregnant. They could not stop the bleeding and kept shooting something in my arm. Then I went to the recover bedroom 10min max is what they gave you. Jimmy got me out of there as soon as day went to work, all was fine, I was relived.
I never regretted the abortion. Only regretted it was illegal. Left the Catholic Church  for good, the next Sunday when the priest was ranting from the pulpit about politicians supporting legalization of abortion.

but never meets someone who actually experienced it. That's horrible. You're really fortunate you survived in one piece. The purpose of my writing this diary was because I've become so angry lately with all the talk about not allowing coverage of contraceptives. It seems like we're going backwards. I had my abortion 40 years ago, in a hospital, by a licensed OB/GYN. We can't allow the Catholic church (or any church) or our politicians to return us to back alleys and savory characters. Our lives and our health are at stake. We need not be afraid to tell our stories, and yell like hell, without embarrassment, if those who have no part in our stories try to deprive us of proper care. Abortions need to be as accessible as lottery tickets. And contraceptives should be prescribed and monitored just like any other medication. That was my goal and I hope it was taken that way.

    •  What the Catholic Bishops are doing now (0+ / 0-)

is the last straw as far as I'm concerned.

Fundamentalist Christians don't consider Catholics to be Christians, because Catholics don't hold to the Protestant doctrine of salvation by faith alone. It's obviously absurd to deny that Catholics are Christians, but  I no longer consider the Catholic Church to be a Christian institution.

The Catholic Church in America has become a Republican pressure group, and should lose its tax-free status.
