  •  In their furor for right wing crazy, Republicans (4+ / 0-)

have opened the pandora's box of snakes that will bite them in November.

If they are willing to take away your right to access to contraceptives, what is next?   Denial of treatment in Catholic Hospitals to gays and lesbians?  Denial of treatment to atheists and Jews and Muslims?  A religious "means test" before you can see your GP?

It is time for this nonsense to stop and Republicans have to be called the Elmer Gantry's they have become.

    •  Actually, this kind of thing (4+ / 0-)

existed in this country up into the 40's and 50's.  If a woman gave birth in a Catholic hospital she was told that if there was a choice between her life and the baby's, she'd be allowed to die.  Contraception was illegal in a number of states, all (as I recall) with large Catholic populations.  There were quotas for minorities and women at many universities, and even more strict quotas at the graduate level.  In some states, women couldn't own property.  Discrimination in the work place against minorities and women was taken for granted.  People of different races couldn't marry.  Being gay or lesbian was reason for firing.  And, of course, abortion was illegal.

When my mother and mother in law reached 21, they could not vote!

I hope young people in their teens and 20's and 30's realize that everything they take for granted came from long, hard fought battles.  And that these rights are being taken away one by one.  They need to be alarmed and active.
