  •  The bishops have sold themselves to the GOP (5+ / 0-)

They have abandoned all of the concerns that the RCC used to have for the poor as they because a wholly-owned subsidiary of the very rich.

The GOP is the party of mammon. They mock what Jesus taught.

    •  I always wondered if some of the GOP (3+ / 0-)

moneybags filled the bishop's coffers to fund the abuse settlements and they are now in their debt.  No evidence of course other than the near complete abandonment of Christian teaching to push a hard right agenda.

    •  The Bishops have ALWAYS been Conservative (7+ / 0-)

And, if you understand long term strategy, you would see that what Obama has done is "neutralize" them, as well as the Religious Right. By his "compromise" he is once again the adult in the room. The Republicans (now resoundingly tied to religious extremism) are the petulant kids. The Church (and Santorum and Rubio) are on tape advocating the Bishops' position of No Contraception, period. Whether Santorum gets the nomination or not, the GOP is tied to this policy (especially helpful if Rubio is chosen for VP). And what better way to get women and young adults to vote than the threat that contraception will be taken away from them?

And in the long term, by neutralizing the Bishops (and exposing the extremism on the Right), President Obama is clearing the way for repeal of DOMA in his second term.
