  •  This is a kerfuffel... (0+ / 0-)

    tempest in a teapot.

It's very simple. Those who really can use a gun well should be tested, certified and required to carry that card when packing or transporting firearms. Anyone who wants to pack, do the training, testing and certification bump and grind. Anyone who does not, no guns, and if they do pack without being certified, prison and confiscation. Anyone who sells to a person not certified, prison and confiscation.

That card could be Federal, but the training, testing and certification could be done by the NRA for all I care. Let them make big bucks in that business. But that process should be as well inspected as anything else.

The main thing, NRA, is how to keep guns out of the hands of those who are naive, untrained, deranged and criminal. The answer is not, "too bad so sad, people are going to get them".

    Ugh. --UB.

right to certification, permits, and training.

Freedom of speech? Pass this English test and make sure you keep current with what 'proper speech' entails. Annual permit renewal!
Freedom of Religion? Are you certified to wield that deadly religion? (Theism, like Republicans, causes more damage than firearms do.)
      Etc...

    •  Certification, permits (4+ / 0-)

and training only work on the law abiding. You won't find too many criminals submitting to background checks and signing up for concealed carry classes.

      •  Yes, but the NRA won't even agree to that... (0+ / 0-)

        It's a joke!

          •  NICS checks? (0+ / 0-)

            Yes,

            http://en.wikipedia.org/...

But I am talking about training, testing, certification and the NICS check used in EVERY purchase.

Do you think that every purchase goes through NICS check?

            I don't.

And I wrote earlier, no check, prison and confiscation on the part of the seller.

I think you and I see things similarly. But you tell me.

Let anyone own a gun who wants. Register it, have a user certification to carry. if not, prison and confiscation.

            Or?

            Ugh. --UB.

            •  No registration. (0+ / 0-)

              No testing.
              No certification.
No NICS for private transfers unless they cross state lines.

I know every purchase doesn't go through the NICS system. I've bought and sold like that.

Registration leads to confiscation. It's not just overseas but in places like California.

No testing. I don't want to see any Constitutionally enshrined right subject to testing. English tests for freedom of speech? "Are you a Christian?" tests for freedom of religion? A voting test (that you'd have to pay for)? No thanks. (Same with certification.)

      and Twenty-Fourth Amendment "cards", please?

Surely each of those "process(es) should be as well inspected as anything else".  AmIrite?

      •  Then let the guns run wild... (0+ / 0-)

and proliferate. Everyone has one. Wild West.

Now, getting back to reality, right now, we DO use gun permits. Except we don't train very well.

Um, if that's not good, how do you prevent gun fights in malls, schools, and workplaces?

        Do tell.

        Ugh. --UB.

        •  Wild West = gun control. (0+ / 0-)

No guns in town. Shootout at the OK Corral was due to someone wearing a gun in town, against the law.

You do realize that violent crime is DROPPING while firearm laws have liberalized over the last 25 years right?
