  •  Perhaps it is time (0+ / 0-)

for Obama's PAC to run some ads to extend this primary season.  $5 million spent now might save you 50 million later.

I think one killer ad in Michigan suggesting that Romney is a traitor to the state and would have killed Michigan's economy by letting Detroit go bankrupt might get enough workers in the auto industry regardless of party angry enough to go and vote against Romney to cost him the state.

    •  We have to be careful, (0+ / 0-)

because it would be easy for our ads to backfire. If we go too hard on Romney, they might think we fear him the most (something they'd consider an asset), and they might also, naturally, rally to his defense. Plus, messages that resonate with Dems and indies often do not resonate with conservatives. It's a tricky balance.

      •  This is true in general (0+ / 0-)

But certain attacks on Romney resonate across the political spectrum.  The Bain attacks, offshore accounts, flip-flopping, etc. resonate among conservatives, moderates and liberals.  I believe that the "Let Detroit go Bankrupt" attacks will have the same resonance among people in Michigan across the political spectrum.

In addition, I think if Romney loses Michigan in the primary, he will concede it in the general like McCain did.  All in all, I think it is worth a shot for Obama to play in Michigan.
