  •  Thanks for the info and I went to (0+ / 0-)

Salem a couple of times and you are right it is an odd place but I would imagine those Baptists were ready to hang someone.  Odd in the sense, it is culturally diverse in many ways.  Ha.. I really got a kick out of the fightback because the only kind of tracts those baptists have ever seen came from the Baptist Book Store or the ones the Watchtowe Jehovah Wittness  passes out and they don't read those.  Thanks for the info !!!  We were taught in school..again a lie...that they were hung or burned.  See how great an education I got.

Most of the witch persecutions were in ENgland or Europe, and burning was the norm.  Then there was the auto de fe and the Inquisition. I think people mix witches with heretics (which the church certainly did; they were deemed Satanists). I started researching in high school (Catholic high school!) as a form of rebellion because I learned early to take  things religious with a grain of salt (more ike and entire 5 pound bag).  I amused myself by bringing up the Borgia Pope in my seniro year course on marriage.  Good trainign for writing research papers in college!

The last time we mixed religion and politics people got burned at the stake.

and people just picking things out as a guideline to serve their own interest.  I am glad you did this irishwitch because so many never question anything and just go along to get along.  Precisley why we have the mess we have today.  People who don't stand for something will fall for anything.
I am going today to take my daughter to meet with some college counselors to help her enroll.  After that I will be going to see about my husband who by the way the VA has him in a contracted hospital.  I hope I can do all this in one drive.  I told her ..I think I am writing thesis papers for you with some of these diaries... (lol)

We are known for blasphemous humor. Dogma was the most Catholic movie ever made--perfect example of that kind of humor.  Catholics who stay Catholic, for the most part, are cafeteria variety--the church is pretty good on social justice issues, like economic issues and capital punishemnt but is batshit nuts on sex. ANd Catholic education, which is often excellent, does teach you how to analyze and think critically--which means many of us leave.
