It's very common in the military for rape to happen.  Equally common for women to whore themselves out and attack others doing the same.  Affairs also happen, and the entire "no sex between officers and enlisted" is not followed at all.

This sort of stuff happens with the stress of deployment, the age fact (mostly young and horny as hell), and a few other factors.

The military is trying to fix it, but it's a fact of service that once deployed people to get raped and the better looking girls do set up blow job shops.  And this largely gets looked over and avoided unless it gets out of hand.

In all male units this doesn't really happen to the same extent.  Rape is much rarer, and due to more people being straight than gay you can't set up a sex for money scheme.  So (in the Navy) an all male shape has far fewer cases of rape and prostitution than a mixed sex ship has.

Keep in mind most of these people are ages 18-24, it's a frat and sorrority house with guns under extremely stressful situations most people can't even understand.  So crazy things do tend to happen.

BTW, the military doesn't view this as a "womans issue", because it's not.  It's an issue for everyone.  It's an issue of not properly dealing with the stress of combat and being deployed and creates all sorts of havoc and problems.  The proof is that these issues, along with killings, go up when we are at war.

    •  Got a link or two to studies regarding... (4+ / 0-)

...how common it is for enlisted women to "whore themselves out"?

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.

But our carrier had a "fab 5", the "love shack" and even a party in the back of a helo that was for some reason or another always being worked on.  It was laughable.  And mostly shoved under the rug when it threatened the command.

        Happens all the time.

      •  And even that sounds like survival sex (0+ / 0-)

not an intent to go into business.

I do understand that to some men women are default W's regardless of the facts.

      not "women whoring themselves out".

Not being a rapist is about the lowest possible expectation one could have for our men in uniform, regardless of how "young and horny" they are.

      •  It is related though (0+ / 0-)

It's related to sexual problems that crop up when people are stuck out there and under stress.  Really crazy things happen.

If you want to stick your head in the sand and claim that the massive rate in prostitution, rape, and cheating on ones spouse, going up the longer people are deployed or in combat is not related, you're free to live in that fantasy world.  But these do go up.  So do non sexual assaults and suicides.  This is all part of the same problem.

Claiming rape is an issue is fighting a symptom, not the root cause.
