  •  No, it's not evil. (3+ / 0-)

But he's not doing anything progressive with this budget, he's just saying things that are progressive.  It's election year, and it's not a coincidence that it's conveniently timed.

Doing something progressive would have involved proposing and going to bat publicly for some of these ideas to get them passed into law when the opportunity presented itself (not dismissing them as, say, a "sliver" while your healthcare bill turns into a corporate-friendly mess) when they stood a hope in hell of actual passage and his approval ratings would have made it difficult for obstructionists to say no.

Yeah, the Republicans are assholes who demonize everything and his budget is dead on arrival, and its not wrong to cast them as jerks and make them pay a price for it.  So where was this combative attitude during 2008-2010 when they were behaving exactly the same way and he was on his bipartisanship fetish?  Apparently it was fine to let the Democratic caucus walk the electoral plank then, but when it's the President's ass on the line...

Just as it was in 2010 when this site wasted its efforts dissecting and complaining about every word uttered by the Prez .

    •  well he and the Dems got effectively (0+ / 0-)

demonized over anything mildly progressive they tried to do in 2009-10 and the voters responded to that stupidity by making Congress far worse.

Perhaps now is the time to make another push, one that is a bit more progressive.  I am not one who will be entirely cynical about this.  The WH tired to get out the vote in 2010 but the sad fact is almost every sitting President loses seats in the first midterm.  People are more motivated to vote against something than for something.

The fact that they are pushing this now when they have a chance to recapture the House is in my view a good thing.  In politics as in life timing is everything
