  •  I think it would mix things up (0+ / 0-)

and we would not hear so much "Beltway wisdom."  I mean, it could easily be written off as "you're young but you don't understand," but you need an under 30 to explain Ron Paul to you, for example.

...to the younger set seems to me to be about pot, and being selfish.

The first time many people hear Ron Paul, they are attracted by the simplicity of his message and some parts have a lot of favorable resonance -like legalizing pot and no more war. He sounds like a hippy from the sixties!

But then you get to the no government at all stuff, the gold standard, civil rights, and you realize he is the next best thing to a lunatic. Despite that, he still gets points from many simply because he is an iconoclast and not afraid to voice his opinions.

I think many Ron Paulites are simply using him as a medium to transfer disdain of the entire government in general. He would seem to be a useful tool for the neo-conservatives and neo-liberals who both want to downsize government (at least the safety nets) and privatize

Ron Paul has a defined learning arc.

“Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.” FDR
