  •  Really? 44% of Americans (10+ / 0-)

Think we ought to go BACK 100 years to a gold standard??  Then 44% of Americans are idiots!

    •  Um, yeah. What, did you just wake up (5+ / 0-)

    •  Well, yeah (8+ / 0-)

I mean, how many Americans voted for George W. Bush ... twice?

      •  THE MAJORITY!!! (1+ / 0-)

51% (well, the second time... unless you don't count Ohio, where probably a lot of voter fraud happened... and the first time, well... you know... Florida...)

So, I guess that in those cases, you know -- 49% of the popular vote or something like that went for Bush. Which is, of course, a clear majority (of idiots.)

    •  Yes!!! 44% of Americans ARE idiots!!! (2+ / 0-)

But it isn't just because of the "gold standard" philosophy!!!

Remember -- when anyone says something stupid like "well, we should do x, y , or z because most Americans are in favor of it then remember the following fun FACTS:

      - MOST Americans drive over the speed limit at some point in their daily travels in automobiles

      - MOST Americans get a divorce at some point in their lives

      - MOST Americans eat too much sugar, lipids, red meat, and starch-laden foods

      - MOST Americans believe that angels really exist, and are really here right now shaping our future

      - MOST Americans do NOT believe in trolls, goblins, or gnomes -- although they should, since they already believe that "angels walk among us..."

      - MOST Americans drink alcoholic beverages, despite numerous warnings about the health risks of doing so

      - MOST Americans watch too much television and don't spend enough time with their children and other family members (except when they all watch television together)

So -- there ya have it! Most people are fucking MORONS. Yes, it sucks. But then again, MOST people also voted for Obama in 2008.

So they can't be ALL bad...

      :)

I'm truly not just blasting people. I can be a TOTAL moron sometimes too. Maybe often. Maybe ALL THE TIME. But this is where emotion and logic must be separated and must diverge.

We MUST learn how to apportion a certain amount of our political capital toward doing things that are more than merely expedient. Capriciousness seems to creep into every discussion that we have about politics. We can talk ad nauseum about whether free condoms for school children is a good or bad idea -- but we should have that discussion AFTER WE ALREADY APPROVED THE MEASURE 90 to 10.

          There. I'm done now.
